Anaerobic bacteria are the culprits almost all forms of bad breath. They are microorganisms that require oxygen-free environment. The word "anaerobic" means "without air", and for our purposes, the air is associated with oxygen. Roth man is a perfect environment in which these organisms can thrive. So why the mouth? Well, to begin with, the surface of the tongue is covered with fibrous growths called papillae. Oxygen rarely gets to where these fibers join the main part of the language that allows these microbes live and reproduce successfully. They are also well deep in the throat, in the tonsils crypts, and sinus. Another reason for their presence in the mouth that these organisms play an important role in digestion. Their job is to break down proteins found in specific foods. And they do it very effectively.
